A yacht under 10m experienced an orca interaction at 38.666 N, 9.411 W on 15 September 2025, resulting in extensive damage to the rudder. The vessel was sailing close to shore when three distinct blows to the rudder were felt, leading to a loss of steering. The crew turned off the depth sounder, after which the blows stopped, and proceeded to the nearest port under engine power.

All four vessels are currently anchored close to the northern coast of Somalia, within territorial waters, with 67 crew members held captive.
